Welcome to Katy Elderberry
Welcome to Katy Elderberry!
HI! My name is Jen Gonseaux. I’m a wife to an amazing man of 15 years who is my biggest cheerleader and much needed muscle in the kitchen when I’m making Elderberry, a mom of 3 beautiful girls who keep us very busy with sports, dance, and homeschooling, and in the middle of all this, I love researching and figuring out ways to keep my family healthy!
I get the question a lot, “how did you get into elderberry”? When I first became pregnant and went into my 7 week appointment, I did NOT like what went down. The OB came in, checked for heart beat, gave me an estimated due date and then sent me on my way without giving me any opportunity to ask questions. This was my first pregnancy, and I had TONS of questions.
As I left that office, I KNEW there had to be another way, so I searched out other options and quickly landed on a midwife.
The care, attentiveness, love, hugs and prayer I received at nearly every check up solidified my decision that searching out alternative birthing plans was what was best for me. Throughout my relationship with my midwife, she educated me on many things including natural ways of keeping my family healthy.
I was a first time mom and was suddenly aware that I was in charge of someone else's well being! I also wasn't ok with some of how western medicine was approached or used and knew that the things God put on this earth all had purpose besides looks!
I had decided that I wanted to be PRO-active instead of RE-active about my family's health.
Among many other things I found and changed in our household, elderberries became a primary focus. I had done research, played around with recipes, and by the time my oldest daughter turned 2, Elderberry was a staple in our home. I've now been making it for over 12 years.
Over the years, I shared my love of Elderberry and ways to heal our bodies naturally with friends and family. Anytime I made a batch of elderberry at home, friends would call and ask if I could make them a bottle.
Having 3 kids in 3 years, a traveling husband and then starting to homeschool, it never felt like the right time to make this into something bigger than helping out friends and family.
As we hit a time of lockdowns, tons of illness, and a time where people were questioning and wanting something more natural to help their immune systems, I asked my husband what he thought about making this into something bigger, something that could bless even more families. He jumped at the idea and we ran with it!
Here we are in 2024, starting our 3rd year of business, and we could not be more proud and thankful. This passion of keeping my family healthy, spreading the word that you can be PRO-active rather than RE-active, and my desire to help other moms feel empowered to take care of their families has led to this moment right here.
Thank you for being part of Katy Elderberry’s story and for trusting us in your homes and with your family. We aim to empower and educate through sharing stories of what has helped or worked in our own families as well as show you research of what Elderberry can do for you!
